Agency 1 — Every Insurance, One Agency

Why your premium went up even though you never filed a claim

A clean record and a higher bill is the most common call we get. The reasons are mostly industry-wide — but a few of them are yours to adjust.

Insurance paperwork and reading glasses on a kitchen table

If your renewal arrived higher than last year despite a spotless claims history, you are in good company. Most of the increase has little to do with you personally.

What's pushing rates up

  • Repair costs. Vehicles carry sensors, cameras, and calibrated systems in parts of the car that used to be plain sheet metal. A modest collision now involves parts and recalibration that did not exist a decade ago.
  • Construction costs. Materials and skilled labor determine what it costs to rebuild a house, and those figures have moved faster than home values in many neighborhoods.
  • Severe weather. Insurers price for a wider range of weather events across the country, and those costs are spread across policyholders.
  • Reinsurance. Insurers buy their own coverage; when that becomes more expensive, it flows into the rates they file.

What you can actually influence

Deductibles are the fastest lever: moving a home deductible up meaningfully lowers premium, and it usually makes sense if you would not file a small claim anyway. Bundling home and auto with the same carrier often produces the single largest discount available. And carriers routinely offer credits that go unclaimed — for a monitored alarm, a newer roof, a paid-in-full term, telematics, or a good-student driver.

The part people skip

Shopping the market is not the same as lowering your coverage. A cheaper quote that removes replacement cost, drops a water backup endorsement, or halves your liability limits is not a saving — it is a transfer of risk to you. As an independent agency, we compare carriers with the coverage held constant, so the number you are looking at means something.

If your renewal jumped, send it over. We will tell you whether it is in line with what we are seeing across Central Pennsylvania or whether it is worth remarketing.
